Discourse Information for Disambiguation: the Phoenix Approach in Janus M.s. Project Report Committee: 1 Problem Statement

چکیده
For any given utterance out of what we can loosely call context, there is usually more than one possible interpretation. A speaker's utterance of an elliptical expression, like the gure \twelve fteen", might have a diierent meaning depending on the discourse context, the way the conversation has evolved until that point, and the previous speaker's utterance. If this is a problem for any human listener, the problem grows considerably when it is a parser doing the disambiguation. In this project, I intend to help a parser disambiguate among diierent possible parses for an input sentence, with the nal goal of improving the translation in an end-to-end speech translation system. One of the problems machine translation within a speech system faces is the presence of dissuencies and recognizer errors. A grammar designed to accept only perfectly formed sentences will fail on this type of input. The Phoenix parser Ward 91, Ward 94] was designed to capture the content of spoken dialogue through semantic grammars, which assign an input string to a concept, putting together a sequence of concepts that might form a complete thought or sequence, usually assigning a speech act to the sequence. If we are able to understand illocutionary force in the input language, we can produce the same illocutionary force in the output language, irrespective of the actual 1

This paper proposes a two-layered model of dialogue structure for task-oriented dialogues that processes contextual information and disambiguates speech acts. متن کاملProsody and Discourse Structure: Issues and Experiments
In this report we summarize the approach of examining structural relations between prosody and discourse semantics by means of experimental phonetics.1 We sketch the computational basis of the project, its methodological setting, and we present the results of three experiments on: • the role of local prominence in disambiguation of focal adverbs • the role of relative prominence in anaphora res...
متن کاملDevelopment of a forward chain approach for calculating self-delay of project activities
In the field of management, the delay within projects is a prominent and contentious issue. Due to the fact that delay leads to cost and time over-runs, it is often the subject of litigation claims and creation of managerial tensions. In a bid to bring such delays under control and also to diminish managerial tensions, it is necessary to recognize and understand the following four concepts:"typ...
متن کاملA fuzzy multi-objective model for a project management problem
In this research, the multi-objective project management decision problem with fuzzy goals and fuzzy constraints are considered. We constitute α-cut approach and two various fuzzy goal programming solution methods for solving the Multi-Objective Project Management (MOPM) decision problem under fuzzy environments. The Interactive fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (i-FMOLP) and Weighted Ad...
